Chocolate and Vanilla Marble Cake

Updated: Oct 18, 2022

Hi I’m back! I’m always stuck for ideas on flavours to make my cakes, so I thought I would just make a combination of my two favourite flavours!

I chose to do a 50/50 on the chocolate and vanilla flavouring however if you really wanted to, you could add slightly more of one of the flavours if you prefer.

Chocolate and Vanilla Marble Cake

Ingredients

Cake Batter

· 300g Self-Raising Flour

· 300g Caster Sugar

· 300g Unsalted Butter (room temperature)

· 2 Tbsp Milk

· 4 Eggs

· 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

· 30g Cocoa Powder

Chocolate Icing

· 20g Cocoa Powder

· 150g Unsalted Butter (room temperature)

· 150g Icing Sugar

· 50g Milk Chocolate

Instructions:

Cake Batter

1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (350 degrees F). Line and prepare two 6 inch baking tins.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.

3. Add in the eggs one at a time and mix between each addition.

4. Fold in the flour and add the milk.

5. Split the batter roughly in half and put in two separate bowls.

6. To one of the bowls, add the cocoa powder and mix. If the mixture seems too dry, you could add a splash of milk.

7. To the other bowl, add the vanilla extract.

8. Pour small amounts of each of the batter into the baking tins using spoons, alternating the two batters.

9. Take a skewer or cocktail stick and swirl the batters together. Don’t do this two much as you don’t want to mix them too much.

10. Bake for 20 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.

11. Leave to cool on a cooling rack or just in the tins.

Chocolate Buttercream Icing

1. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals until fully melted.

2. Whisk the unsalted butter for around 5 minutes until light and fluffy.

3. Slowly sift in the icing sugar and whisk until all the icing sugar has been whisked in.

4. Then sieve in the cocoa powder and pour in the chocolate and whisk again.

5. Use a spatula to mix it by hand to make sure it is nice and smooth. 6. Spread the icing onto the cake and smooth it using a knife or palette knife. Then carefully put the other cake on top.

7. Enjoy!
