My Favourite Gingerbread

This gingerbread recipe is absolutely delicious. Gingerbread is the perfect biscuit for dunking in a cup of tea and so a recipe for it is essential. Once you have tried this recipe you will never want to go back to shop-bought!

How long to keep the dough?

The dough can be kept in the fridge for up to a week. If you do leave it in the fridge for over 2 hours, leave to warm slightly for 20 minutes. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months. This can be very helpful so you can make a big batch of dough which can be baked when needed.

My Favourite Gingerbread Recipe

Ingredients:

Dough

· 175g Dark Brown Sugar

· 85g Golden Syrup

· 100g Unsalted Butter

· 1tsp Bicarbonate of Soda

· 350g Plain Flour

· 2tsp Ground Ginger

· 1tsp Cinnamon

· 1 Egg

Instructions:

Gingerbread

1. Heat the sugar, butter and golden syrup in a pan until melted. Add the bicarbonate of soda - it may fizz a little. Leave to cool.

2. In a large bowl, mix plain flour with the ginger and cinnamon. Make a small well in the centre.

3. Add the sugar, butter and golden syrup mixture and an egg to the flour.

4. Put the dough in a sealable tub and place in the fridge for an hour.

5. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

6. Roll out the dough to a 5mm thickness and use cutters to make different shapes.

7. Place the biscuits on a pre-lined tray and bake in the oven for 6-8 minutes. You may need to do a few batches because you can only fit around 8 biscuits per tray.

8. Once they are out of the oven leave to cool for at least 5 minutes as they are still baking. They will harden.

9. Enjoy!
